Jack keeps a tattered deep red pirate cap with a red feather of unknown origin.

Jack Krystaal claims that he once was a captain of a pirate ship and sailed the seas proudly, but lost his ship to his brother. This depressed Jack into becoming a heavy drinker, but still claiming to be a Captain.
