Rob, I want to use an interrupt. Warning! The following page contains spoilers for the most recent campaign! Oh no!

The Timeline of Unforgotten Realms Live is constantly changing as new campaigns create connections between stories. The following is the confirmed canon timeline of the series so far.

One could completely debunk the entirely timeline with two simple facts:

  1. Any character could be a believer at any time (unless they admit they could be or are frozen in time)
  2. Any character could have had their mind toyed with to alter their memories and character arc

As such, for the purpose of the timeline actually being a worthwhile endeavour it is assumed that by default a character is not a believer and has not had their mind toyed with in any way. These assumptions work on the basis of innocent until proven guilty.

Sunswords to Den of Devils (2)

Timeline:

  1. The Sunswords
  2. Porc Hunters
  3. The Jewel of the Dingo Isles
  4. Den of Devils

OR:

  1. The Sunswords
  2. The Jewel of the Dingo Isles
  3. Porc Hunters
  4. Den of Devils

Explanation:

  • In The Sunswords, Phineas has yet to join Theta Squad or become a master Cabalist. He is still in training and knows no Cabalist skills. In Porc Hunters, Phineas has become all of this and joins Theta Squad. This confirms that Sunswords predates Porc Hunters. The time between the two campaigns is likely very short, as Phineas is a prepubescent child in both and in Sunswords he has already been referred to as a young adult so he is likely around 10 to 12 in human years.
  • In The Sunswords, Jakelad is still alive. In The Jewel of the Dingo Isles, he is killed by Kinney Boots. This confirms that Sunswords predates The Jewel of the Dingo Isles.
  • In Den of Devils Nisovin refers to sending Jo Krysstal on a quest to find The Jewel of the Dingo Isles. Thus Den of Devils must take place after The Jewel of the Dingo Isles.
  • It's unknown if Kinney Boots had Lieutenant Surge in The New Crew, so it's unknown if she got it after Porc Hunters or lost it before Porc Hunters. Either timeline is plausible.

Sunswords to Den of Devils (3)

Timeline:

  1. The Sunswords
  2. The Tower of Ultimate Wizardry: Chapter One
  3. The Zarlin Catacombs
  4. Unexpected Discovery
  5. Den of Devils

Explanation:

Sunswords to Okagnoma Guild Hall

Timeline:

  1. The Sunswords
  2. The Blood Snake Queen
  3. Okagnoma Guild Hall

Explanation:

  • In Okagnoma Guild Hall, multiple characters reference Dave's book, Boyfriend Quest. As it was still being written in The Sunswords, Okagnoma Guild Hall must come after that.
  • In Okagnoma Guild Hall, a few moments after the group of students teleport into the cave, the mercenary group from The Blood Snake Queen commences their tower manoeuvre, ultimately failing before they retreat. With this information, we know that the third encounter of Okagnoma Guild Hall happens during the final encounter of The Blood Snake Queen.

Band of Thieves to Buckaroos

Timeline:

  1. Band of Thieves
  2. Murder Bros
  3. Buckeroos

Explanation:

The Fall of Dundinborough to The Skeleton King

Timeline:

  1. The Fall of Dundinborough
  2. The Death of Virgo
  3. The New Crew
  4. The Skeleton King

Explanation:

Guild of Explorers to Den of Devils

Timeline:

  1. Guild of Explorers
  2. Den of Devils

Explanation:

  • In the Guild of Explorers Duke Daring is setting off to find the Scrolls of the Sandbold. In Den of Devils it is referenced by himself and by Raynel that he failed this quest and never acquired the scrolls.

Band of Thieves to Den of Devils

Timeline:

  1. Band of Thieves
  2. Den of Devils

Explanation:

  • Gracias is in Band of Thieves. Gracias dies in Den of Devils, thus Den of Devils must take place after Band of Thieves.

Points of Interest

The following are things to keep in mind when changing the timeline or adding theories to the section below.

What is Canon?

What is Not Canon?

  • Anything said outside a campaign or Coe's Quest episode, by Rob, a player or otherwise
  • The Many Gobos of Pat
  • Things that have been retconned (usually in a campaign immediately after they happen)
  • Lords of Minecraft
  • DvZ
  • Unforgotten Realms
  • Unforgotten Quest

Timeline Placement of Band of Thieves

  • The possibility of something happening is not the same as something happening. For example, K4 could have appeared in The Unseen Rogues instead of Squinks. However, he did not, and therefore his potential appearance has no bearing on canon.
  • Though it was at first teased that Porc Hunters might take place after Band of Thieves when it was mentioned that the Kobold that Dave was escorting was connected to a band of thieves that attacked the Sunswords, this was just to mislead the audience. The prisoner was actually Chimera, not Philhipé, and he was connected to the Murder Bros, not Yumi's band of thieves.

Timeline Placement of Kobold Headhunters

  • In the Silvermine Mountains campaign, Gwyneth Sunsword mentioned that the elves had done some work in Karazzim in the past. However, this comment has no real bearing on the timeline placement of Kobold Headhunters, and just means that the elves influenced the town at some point.
  • Since it's unclear how the Vampire Locket works, it's also unclear if Kobold Headhunters and Unseen Rogues happen at the same time or not.
    • In The Skeleton King, a vision shows Romulus leaving to find Neena Brando, implying that she is alive and possibly in the same time as Romulus. This may not mean that the campaigns happen simultaneously, but may instead mean that they happen within a short enough time of eachother that both characters are alive at the same time.

Pot Puppies

  • Pot puppies lives for around a year, this is canon [1], however there is the possibility that a pot puppy could eat dragon scales and therefore live longer. Additionally note that we do not know how long a year is in URealms and so we cannot use pot puppies to measure the aging of characters other than the number attached to their age.

Placement of The Cobblers and The Death of Virgo

  • It has been previously stated on the timeline that: "In The Cobblers, Reginald Barringster III has his mind made blank by Borris Cobbler" This has been asserted to prove that The Cobblers is before The Death of Virgo with the logic that with his mind blank Reginald Barringster III could have his mind taken over by legion, resulting in him betraying the party in The Death of Virgo. However it is equally possible that his mind was already taken over by legion and that was cleared from his mind or even that his mind was never taken over by legion in the first place.

The Word of Rob

  • Not everything that Rob says is automatically the case for the timeline. If Rob asserts something to be the case, but when reason and logic is applied and it does not make sense, then it is not the case. Rob is only human, he can make mistakes. Case in point: The Cobblers and The Death of Virgo placement and this. Also the word of Rob is still under the rule that only things said in campaigns and Coe's Quest are canon.
  • One example of Word of Rob is this (rough) timeline shown in the Den of Devils Behind the Scenes video. While it gives players a generally good idea of what happens when, it has a few flaws, and isn't an official timeline.
  • While Word of Rob is generally considered non-canon, it can sometimes affect how canon is viewed. In one of Rob's Behind the Scenes videos, he mentioned that any time the players sing "Fuck the Kobolds", it has no bearing on the timeline placement, since it's just the go-to song that the players will sing as an in-joke without regard for the timeline. As such, it is generally not a good idea to use that song as proof for timeline placement.

Theories

Sunswords precedes Band of Thieves

Gwyneth Sunsword mentions whilst she has a baby her desire to go and spend some time with some Sun Clerics. She, however, loses the baby, so likely did not do this straight after Sunswords. Gwyneth does do this at some point, however, whether it be before or after Sunswords, and among them she spends time with Dave. Also in Sunswords and Band of Thieves, Dave is not a captain, but in Porc Hunters he is. Promotion maybe, but also possibly a demotion so it does not prove anything.

Porc Hunters precedes Band of Thieves

The time span between Sunswords and Porc Hunters is likely very short, as Phineas is similarly aged in both campaigns. In this time Gwyneth would have to have a reason (ie. injury or baby) to leave the Sunswords and go live with some Sun Clerics. Dave would also have to have a reason for why he should leave and go with her. It is possible that Dave left the Sunswords with Gwyneth and went to live with Sun Clerics, as Gwyneth may have broken up with Xavius and started going out with Dave instead, as Gwyneth hinted in Sunswords that Dave might end up as her next boyfriend.

It is possible, therefore, that the two are dating in Porc Hunters (whilst they are both part of the Sunswords taking prisoners to the Silver Mine Mountains), which would explain why Ca-Rell asked Dave how Gwyneth is. It's possible that the party was split at the time of Porc Hunters, with Gwyneth leading one expedition and Dave, her number two, leading another. Dave then gets Gwyneth pregnant and they leave the Sunswords to go to live with some Sun Clerics. During Band of Thieves Gwyneth is pregnant with Dave's child and then afterwards she gives birth. This would mean that Band of Thieves happens a non-specific time after Porc Hunters.

However, this theory is flawed in two major ways. Firstly, Dave dies in Murder Bros while escorting Chimera to the Silvermine Mountains, which might happen directly after Porc Hunters, in which he was also escorting Chimera. If Murder Bros does indeed happen shortly after Porc Hunters, then Dave wouldn't be able to stick around for Band of Thieves, as he'd be dead. In addition, there is no mention of Gwyneth having a child in The Silvermine Mountains, nor is there any mention of a relationship with Dave in either Band of Thieves or The Silvermine Mountains.

Band of Thieves precedes Porc Hunters

Theory 1

Another theory states that since Dave is not a captain in either Sunswords or Band of Thieves, but is a captain in Porc Hunters, and since it is already known that Sunswords predates Porc Hunters due to Phineas joining Theta Squad at the end of Porc Hunters, then (using Occam's Razor) it is most likely that Dave was promoted/demoted to Captain after both Sunswords and Band of Thieves, rather than promoted and then suddenly demoted (or vice versa). Thus, Band of Thieves most likely predates Porc Hunters.

Theory 2

It's very likely that Murder Bros happens a very short time after Porc Hunters, because Dave is leading Chimera to the Silvermine Mountains in both, and dies in Murder Bros. Because of the short amount of time between Porc Hunters and Dave's death, it's highly unlikely that Band of Thieves, which features Dave, happens between the two campaigns, and it is much more likely that it happens some time before Porc Hunters.

How Kinney Boots acquired Lieutenant Surge from Ca-Rell

Theory 1

Kinney Boots stole from, or killed, Ca-Rell to obtain the enchanted mace.

Theory 2

Merci is actually Porco from Ca-Rell's cave of Porcs. At some point after Porc Hunters, Porco killed Ca-Rell and took Lieutenant Surge from her, later leaving the cave, renaming himself Merci, and becoming a pirate. At some point he skinned his captain and became captain himself. After Kinney joined the crew, Merci gave Lieutenant Surge to Kinney as a gift since they are dating (thought because Merci was in his cabin for 13 days and Kinney's coat was also in Merci's cabin). This could potentially mean that The Jewel of the Dingo Isles occurs many years after Porc Hunters.

This theory is currently very unlikely because of Phineas appearing as a young child in both Porc Hunters and The New Crew, which means that the time between these campaigns is likely not more than a few years. However, it has never been stated in canon how long elf children remain similarly aged, so it's unknown how long Phineas has had or will have the appearance of a young child.

Theory 3

In the card description for the Bewitching Mirror, it says that if the mirror is destroyed, the person trapped in it is released. If the mirror broke at the end of Porc Hunters, then Porbo could have escaped from the mirror and killed Ca-Rell, explaining how the mace left Ca-Rell's possession. At some point after this, Kinney Boots found and/or stole the mace, thus why she owned it in The Jewel of the Dingo Isles.

Timeline Placement of Kobold Headhunters

Theory 1

The first encounter of Kobold Headhunters is set during the final encounter of The Unseen Rogues because Neena appears out of Romulus' Vampire Locket and is required to clean her Nobleborn Knife before leaving use it to finish the final encounter in The Unseen Rogues. This is unconfirmed because it is unclear how the Vampire Locket works.

Theory 2

Kobold Headhunters takes place years after The Unseen Rogues, because Romulus mentions that his ancestor (which he never decides on the number of "great"s for) was killed by someone, and the killing is not implied to have been very recent. In The Unseen Rogues, he comes out of the Vampire Locket and tries to take revenge on Omally, the person who supposedly killed his ancestor. Omally specifically mentions that the kobold attacking him is supposed to be dead, likely referring to Romulus's ancestor. However, it is unlikely that Omally would mistake an old man kobold for a different adult Kobold aside from a passing family resemblance, leading to the possibility that Romulus comes from some point in the future.

It's unlikely that Kobold Headhunters takes place very far in the future, if at all. It is mentioned that Omally also killed Romulus's parents in addition to his grandfather, and that the kobolds that attacked Romulus in the second encounter were part of Omally's gang, implying that Omally is both still alive in the present of Kobold Headhunters, and that he still has a gang. Also, despite a few scenes where Romulus exaggerates the number of "greats," he mostly sticks with calling him "granddaddy," meaning that he is most likely Romulus's grandfather, and not an ancient ancestor.

New Crew precedes Band of Thieves

In The New Crew, Ladyir simply finds the key within a desk, virtually unguarded. It could be that after Merci's crew failed to retrieve the key for Nisovin, the Elves realized that the keys were important for some reason. They then entrusted Gwyneth to wear the key around her neck at all times while they researched what the key was used for. Nisovin, seeing that an outright assault on the elves failed to get the key, hires Yumi to take it by stealth.

This is rather unlikely, since Porc Hunters and Murder Bros both happen within a short time of each other, with Dave leading Chimera to the Silvermine Mountains in both campaigns and dying in the second. Porc Hunters happens before The Jewel of the Dingo Isles, and The New Crew happens quite a while after The Jewel of the Dingo Isles (long enough for Cooper to grow old), meaning that if Band of Thieves happened after The New Crew, it would likely happen quite a while after Dave's death in Murder Bros, and thus would create a paradox.

In addition, it was mentioned in The Skeleton King that there are eight keys, so they might not be the same key (though unlikely, as each key is entrusted to a member of Virgo's family, and only Gwyneth was on the island).

Band of Thieves precedes New Crew

Theory 1

In Band of Thieves, Nisovin has to be pressed for him to reveal what the key looks like. He eventually describes it as orange and glowing but when it seems like the thieves might try to trick him, he immediately warns "Don't just cover a key with tang and bring it back to me!". In The New Crew when Nisovin gives Merci the mission, he describes the key as "tang colored". It could be reasoned that Nisovin only thought about it being "tang colored" after his original warning to the thieves. This may also be the reason why Fenrus was weaker in New Crew then in Band of Thieves, because he was still recovering from the previous battle.

Theory 2

Nisovin hired Yumi and her band of Thieves to sneak into the Temple of the Fallen Sun and steal the key originally. However, when they failed the key was moved to a more secure location on the remote island of Laeyuleaugh where the Sunswords had a summer home. With the key only reachable by sea, Nisovin then hired the crew of the Bocoe, who had, in The Jewel of the Dingo Isles, already proven themselves before to him, to try to steal the key once more.

Unseen Rogues precedes Band of Thieves

In Unseen Rogues when Neena Brando uses Lascene, Squinks gets a copy from his Spellwall Armor. Then, in Band of Thieves, Squinks gives his spellwall armour to Nessie in order to cross the bridge. Note that this is very weak evidence, as Squinks could easily have gotten another spellwall armour after giving his old one to Nessie.

Band of Thieves precedes Unseen Rogues

In Band of Thieves, Squinks starts showing contempt for Yumi, since all of Yumi's plans are the same. He ends up betraying the party, and only rejoins Yumi while escaping the Sunsword Village. It's unlikely the two would stay together for very long, so it's possible that Squinks left Yumi's band of thieves and ended up in the band of thieves fought in The Unseen Rogues.

Guild of Explorers precedes Battle of the Bards

During The Future Winner's first round of performances at Battle of the Bards competition, while against Marcel the Mime Vanessa Squishwitz, thanks to the help of Popo and Gear Man was covered in a sprinkle of fire and ice. Rob, in an out of character sense, asked if Patrick Cake from Guild of Explorers was present in the audience. Rob then rolled, and got an 18. Deadbones then stated that a Gnome started screaming, implying that Patrick was in the crowd, but didn't explain any further. If that gnome was Patrick, this would be a PTSD attack of his. If he was present in the crowd, Guild of Explorers would be before Battle of the Bards.
