Monkey Fish are a hybrid species of a monkey and a fish, that first appeared in the Roamin's Band of Thieves campaign.

Characteristics

Monkey Fish take on the appearance of monkeys, but have several traits that are more suited for living in aquatic environments. They have webbed hands and feet, fish eyes and fins on their face.

The Monkey Fish that appeared in the Monkey Fish Grotto seemed to be completely under the command of the Monkey Fish King. The King commands the smaller Monkey Fish who also appear to be his children.

Abilities

• Slap – Monkey Fish can attack an adjacent target for 5 damage.
• Taunt – The Monkey Fish in The Blood Snake Queen used an ability where they jumped up and down on the bridge, causing their target to become distracted by them, stopping them from moving.

History

Roamin's Band of Thieves

Yumi's Band of Thieves found multiple Monkey Fish living with the Monkey Fish King when they hid in the Monkey Fish Grotto to hide from the Elves. The King questioned them about their purpose in his cave, and was passive against them- letting them hide in his buttocks- until they mentioned Nisovin. After calming him down, he offered to help the thieves steal the a key from the Elves- in exchange for the thieves not stealing the enormous red gem that he held in his possession. The Monkey Fish King sends his son with a genetic disorder, Albert, to assist the thieves in searching for the key. Albert finds the building Gwyneth is in, and begins smashing his head against it to alert the thieves. This sound alerts an Elf, that steps outside and decapitates Albert. During the battle against Gwyneth Sunsword, the King sent another one of his children to the well that leads to the town. This allowed Gracias and K-4 to escape into the well with their lives. K-4 decides to go back to the Monkey Fish Grotto to live with the Monkey Fish King.

The Blood Snake Queen

The party encountered a large group of Monkey Fish that appeared to be migrating downstream, swimming under and jumping over the bridge, so that they could swim off the waterfall.

Yumi and her thieves met with the Monkey Fish King after hiding in his cave from the Sun Cleric Elves. The King questioned them about their purpose in his cave, and was initially very passive against them. He even allowed them to hide in his buttocks underwater from the Elves.

It was not until they mentioned Nisovin that they enraged the Monkey Fish King, which nearly started a battle. Yumi managed to calm him down enough for him to offer the thieves help to steal the key. This was in exchange for not stealing the enormous red gem that he held in his possession.

During the battle against Gwyneth Sunsword, the King sent another one of his children to the well that leads to the town. This allowed Gracias and K-4 to escape into the well with their lives. K-4 then spent his time with the Monkey Fish King.

Powers and Abilities

The Monkey Fish's combat abilities are unknown. Yumi's Band of Thieves encountered Monkey Fish, but never fought them, due to forming an alliance with the Monkey Fish King.

The Monkey Fish King is able to hide at least two Keen Gnomes, an Okagnoma Gnome, a Hill Dwarf and a Kobold inside his butt underwater, which allowed Yumi's Band of Thieves to hide from the Elves. When Yumi's band of thieves got out of hiding, they smelled of bubblegum.

Trivia

• In the campaign The Many Gobos of Pat, Pat summons a crystal flat screen which shows that the Monkey Fish King gives excellent back massages.
• The Monkey Fish King's deformed son Albert was the third character added to the Tambok's Special Friend Show.
