Description
Goblins are humanoid creatures with pointed ears diminutive statures, barely extending in height from Okagnoma Gnomes, making them the second smallest playable race. Goblins come in two types: Greenskin and Hobgoblins.
Greenskin Goblins are characterized by their green skin and their spindly bodyframes. Greenskin goblins are notably frail, but can be especially tenacious and hard to kill if they are determined enough. Greenskins almost always travel in pairs, with whom they share a strong mental link with. Pairs of Greenskin Goblins are generally formed between family members or close friends. This form of telepathy is shared with all greenskin goblins, but appears to be the strongest between members of a pair. Pair bonds between greenskins can often be symbiotic, as exemplified by the goblin pair Marco and Polo, who are blind and deaf, respectively, and assist one another in interacting with the outside world. If one member of a goblin pair dies, the other becomes an Elder Goblin.
Hobgoblins are rust-colored Goblins. They are generally larger and slightly taller than their greenskin counterparts, many of them appearing to be overweight. While sharing many of the attributes of their Greenskin brethren, they do not possess the telepathy characteristic to greenskins, making them the subject of ridicule for Greenskins, who see their Hobgoblin counterparts are dimwitted and stupid. Hobgoblins are particularly more robust than Greenskins, lacking their tendency to killed in one fell swoop. Indeed, hobgolins are at least twice as durable as any greenskin.
Both types of goblin are regarded as thieving and deceitful creatures, more so than Kobolds. They are almost universally disliked by all other races, with some gnomes occasionally being an exception. Animosity towards goblins is most notable with elves, with most elves viewing Goblins as vermin, barely considering any goblin as people. Most Elves would not hesitate to kill goblins on sight. This hatred of goblins are often justified by the fact that goblins seem to share a hive-mind due to their telepathy, thus making them appear less sentient individuals and more of a collective.
Both hobgoblins and greenskins appear to prone to birth defects, with notable cases of conjoined twins (one being an internal tumor) and extreme mental disabilities. In addition, Asthma is known to be common amoung Goblins.
Gobolf
Gobolfs are a sub-race of Goblins that have very little known about them. They were originally believed to be part-elf, but this is now confirmed to be incorrect [1]. Gobolfs often tend to suffer from breathing difficulties, and are usually quite submissive. Elves may treat Gobolfs as actual 'human beings', as they are allowed in the Silvermine Mountains, whereas other Goblins are killed, and not taken as prisoners.
History
The Emerald Lake Bridge Encounter
This encounter was nearly prematurely started when Templeton Barringster, attempted to hide behind a bridge, and a Goblin named Justin crawled out to try to initiate the encounter, but was swiftly pushed back into the water. Later when the campaign continued to the point of this encounter, the party started to verbally and physically abuse the Goblin. He then threw a smoke bomb and stole several of the crews treasures:
- Templeton's Wellforn Ruby
- DeNada's Bewitching Mirror
- Ca-Rell's Bronze Mace (originally Spellwall Armor)
Elmar did not lose any items due to falling into water out of pure laughter. After Ca-Rell scarred him for life with a flare, he fell into the water and sunk down to the bottom, drowning to death. While fighting The Whisper Snake of Emerald Lake DeNada retrieved their items, but kept them to himself for the time being. Further into the encounter the goblin reinforcements began to attack, only to be eradicated shortly after.
The party in The Many Gobos of Pat was comprised entirely by Goblins giving us our first look at what they can do. This campaign had four Greenskin Goblins and two hobgoblins giving a fair look at the skills and abilities of both sub races.
For more information about what these goblins did, check here.
A pair of Goblin merchants approach Gwyneth's prisoner escort crew to display their merchandise for sale. In keeping with tradition, the Elves violently assault the Goblins, killing one and imprisoning the other. Later, when Phineas Barringster temporarily takes over the Sunswords, he demands Bob the Gnome kill the remaining Goblin. Bob instead simply releases the Goblin known as Greeky.
Mt. Kobold Goblin Bandit
It is mentioned in this campaign that there are no Goblins within the prison because every one apprehended is killed by the Elves. However, Shaneil, a Gobolf, was the cellmate of Rusty in the prison.
Race Cards
| Card Name | Ability | Description | Image |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goblin | Pure Greed | Instead of buying items outright, Goblins can roll to attempt to steal an item instead. If they roll higher than the Game Master, they do not have to pay the gold cost for items they are trying to buy. If the attempt to steal fails, the player loses one maximum stamina. | File:Goblin Pure Greed.png |
| Hobgoblin | Bulky | Doubles the stamina gained from your bonus roll and allows you to pick 2 additional abilities from classes of your allies that they did not select. | File:Hobgoblin Bulky.png |
| Greenskin | Speciesism | Greenskin goblins travel in pairs which means you create two characters. Each turn you play for both characters with their own moves and actions, but with a shared stamina pool. Greenskins do not have an unconscious state and instead are killed when they run out of stamina. In addition, when below half stamina have a much greater chance to die to critical hits. Also Greenskins can read the mind of other Greenskins and Hobgoblins. | File:Greenskin Speciesism.png |
| Elder | Ancient Wisdom | After picking your class, you may select their Abilities from all available classes and are given two additional random Class Abilities. | File:Elder Sub Race.png |
