Yumi and her band of gnome thieves – Squinks and Gracias – hire a dwarf named Bumbley to be their muscle for their next job they will be getting. In typical thieves guild tradition, the new Bumbley is renamed by the group and is given the name "Dwarf Number Three" which he happily accepts, though with some mild confusion.
The plot begins immediately, with Yumi's band of thieves tasked by Nisovin to steal a orange glowing Sun Key from the Spellblade Elves. Comprised of only three members, Yumi herself, Squinks the Keen Gnome Bard, and Gracias the Okegnoma Gnome Sorcerer, Yumi hires a dwarf Warrior as the party meat shield. The newly hired dwarf, named Bumbley, is soon renamed by the group to be "Dwarf Number Three," a name he accepts gratefully, although slightly confused.

The thieves are introduced to their quest by Nisovin and are commissioned to steal a special key from the Spellblade Elves. The group decides to not take his advice (which they originally misheard) and instead approach the Elven Camp by way of the mountain pass to the north where they are immediately greeted by three Kobolds. The group manages to convince one of the grunts (Pete, later renamed to "Philhipé") that they are decent guys wanting to pass by but Pete tells them it is not his decision to make and brings the boss over. The Boss immediately takes a dislike to Dwarf No. 3, as he has a hatred for dwarves, due to them taking the resources that the Kobolds like to eat. However, when the guys admit that they aren't completely sure that Dwarf No. 3 is a real dwarf, the Boss agrees to let them pass, assuming they don't plan on stealing any of his loot.
Nisovin drops off the party at the cross roads corner of the known map. Knowing the party must go "North-East"-ish, Nisovin warns the party from traveling into the cave directly north. Distrusting this lazy sorcerer, the party heads north to encounter a group of Kobolds. Upon arrival, Yumi encounters Pete (to be Philhipé), and impresses him with his manners. In doing so, Pete tries to allow free pass through the cave for the party, but Blue Kobold disagrees with the idea. Calling out Yumi and her party for containing a dwarf, hostile tensions grow between the groups, almost dissuaded by Dwarf #3's questionable dwarf-characteristics. Tensions turned to battle however, when Dwarf #3 revealed his name. During the battle, two Whirlwind Kobolds appear, as well as 10 universally-aggressive Gemlings, all on top of all Kobolds showing signs of rabies.

Things seems to be going fine, until Dwarf No. 3 blatantly tells the boss he is a dwarf after being asked his name. This causes the boss to try to punch him in the face and starting an engagement between the two parties. As the battle progresses, two Whirlwind Kobolds join the fight, as well as some Gemlings. In the midst of the fighting, Gracias stops to give Pete a hug, and eventually convinces him again that they are all good guys, so they agrees to sit out on the sidelines  to watch the rest of the fight. As the battle progresses, Dwarf No. 3 is infected with rabies by a Whirlwind Brother, under the command of Squinks who had charmed it. When all the aggressive Kobolds are eventually defeated, Gracias introduces Pete to the group and is recruited by Yumi who chooses to rename him as Philhipé. The group also rename Dwarf No. 3 to "Kobold Number Four" to prevent any similar conflicts from arising.
Gracias flanks the Kobold party, and pauses to give Pete a hug. In doing so, (only) Pete becomes non-aggressive to the party, both he and Gracias sitting out the rest of the encounter. Dwarf #3 is then infected with rabies, by a Whirlwind Brother, who was under direct influence by Squinks at the time. Once the battle is over (all hostile entities are dead/unconscious), Pete is introduced to the party, formally accepted, and renamed Philhipé, in turn renaming Dwarf #3 to "Kobold Number Four" to prevent further naming conflicts.

As the group continues through the cave, Philhipé guides them to a large cavern full of Gemlings and a very large gem. Philhipé goes to lick the large gem, which his boss had told him to never do, but nothing happens. Then as Kobold No. 4 tickles the gem, it awakens and is revealed to be The Gemlord, which turns the Gemlings aggressive. In the course of battle, the Gemlord grows arms, spawns more Gemlings as well as Amplifying Crystals. The team tries various techniques including trying to charm the GemLord as well as enlarging Kobold No. Four to battle it but with some luck, the GemLord is eventually defeated and shatters into pieces.

Plot

The plot begins immediately, with Yumi's band of thieves tasked by Nisovin to steal a orange glowing Sun Key from the Spellblade Elves. Comprised of only three members, Yumi herself, Squinks the Keen Gnome Bard, and Gracias the Okegnoma Gnome Sorcerer, Yumi hires a dwarf Warrior as the party meat shield. The newly hired dwarf, named Bumbley, is soon renamed by the group to be "Dwarf Number Three," a name he accepts gratefully, although slightly confused.

Then as Kobold #4 tickles the gem, it awakens and is revealed to be The Gemlord, which turns all nearby Gemlings aggressive. In the course of battle, the Gemlord grows arms, spawns more Gemlings upon being hit, as well as Amplifying Crystals that direct its giant laser beam. The team tries various techniques including trying to charm The Gemlord as well as enlarging Kobold #4 to battle it. As time wears on and countless Gemlings are spawned, The Gemlord is eventually defeated and shatters into pieces.
