The Common Tongue, or Common is the lingua franca of Unforgotten Realms.

Usage

Almost every race in Unforgotten Realms Live speaks the Common Tongue. Whilst most races and some specific professions have unique languages, such as Abracadab and Kobold, the Common Tongue is used by almost every race presumably for ease of understanding and communication. It is essentially the Unforgotten Realms equivalent of English.

Phonology

Ironically, for the most common language amongst all the races, not much is known about the Common Tongue. Whether it is identical to English or not is unknown because in the Campaigns English is used to express conversation in the Common Tongue. What can be said is that the races of the world do not seem to have great difficulty using it, from the Monkey Fish King to Porcs.

Dialects

Many dialects of the Common Tongue are in frequent usage. Some known examples are listed below.
