It is based on the 1983 hit drama se­ries of the same title. The se­ries pre­miered on GMA Net­work on Oc­to­ber 13, 2014 and in­ter­na­tion­ally via GMA Pinoy TV on Oc­to­ber 14, 2014 re­plac­ing Dad­ing on the net­work's GMA Af­ter­noon Prime block.
